In 1973, after a summer internship in Chiduba, Wendy's father, Ron Elerick was invited by Gregory Makhole, the pastor of a small congregation in Chidubah, and Chief Nazombe to return to Malawi and help establish a mission. Chief Nazombe was Chief of 55, 000 people in the region. It was his wish that Ron and his family (wife Arleen and three daughters – 7-year-old Rhonda, 5-year-old Susan, and 3-year-old Wendy) build a home in his village. The Chief also set aside land for a Church and a Bible training school. After learning enough of the Chichewa language and beginning to learn the ways and customs of the people the Elericks established the school in Chiduba Village and worked to establish new congregations throughout the region.
The Rebirth
Wendy Elerick, wanted to return to Malawi when she was seventeen, but finally made it as adult in 2011. She came on a one-month exploratory trip with $100 in her pocket and a backpack. In August of 2016, she came back to stay as a missionary to the people she loved as a child and Chidubah Rising was officially reborn.
Engagement
Today Wendy lives among the people in a compound that is considered “the Hill of Hope” by the 1500 plus Chidubah Villagers who live around her.
